A Heart Not Easily Broken- Brian's POV #3

Welcome back for a sneak peek into the second chapter of A Heart Not Easily Broken, Book 1 of The Butterfly Memoirs!

Chapter two is an introduction to the male lead of the story, Brian Young, sexy bass guitarist in the band, Diverse Nation.  If you missed last weeks post, no problem, click the link, or read the full first chapter.

Ebony didn't meet him at the club after all. But isn't it funny how life can put something good for you in your path, even if its not what you expected? If it keeps showing up, then you should probably pay it some attention.

It dawned on me I did not answer her question regarding the form of payment. At least it would give me something to talk about when we were done.

Saturday night, Ebony disappeared like Cinderella, without leaving a hint of a glass slipper. Now, barely two days later, I found where she lived. What were the chances? This was fate.

Fate, hmm....could Brian be a romantic? If nothing else, he knows how to manipulate a situation to suit him. Come back next week to see where it goes!

A Heart Not Easily Broken - Brian's POV #2

Welcome back for a sneak peek into the second chapter of A Heart Not Easily Broken, Book 1 of The Butterfly Memoirs!

Chapter 2 is an introduction to the male lead of the story, Brian Young, the sexy bass guitarist in the band, Diverse Nation.  If you missed last week's post, no problem, click the link or read the full first chapter.

Ebony walks toward the the truck, her mind set on the contents inside her large bag. She realizes she may not have enough cash to pay him. Their eyes meet, stopping her dead in her tracks, surprise written all over her face. Brian has already recovered and a million thoughts race through his mind. Ebony, on the other hand, is obviously uncomfortable.

Maybe guilt for not meeting me in VIP?

“I’m here to cut your grass.” I screwed the top back on the gas can, fighting the urge to laugh at the irony of the situation.

Play it cool. I was not about to let her know how disappointed I’d been sitting alone. What happened a few nights ago had nothing to do with the money she was about to put in my pocket.

Now you know, she didn't stick around after all. Where will they go from here? Well, this is a novel so it's obvious they get somewhere....the question is how. And isn't that the fun part?

See you next week!

A Heart Not Easily Broken - Brian's POV #1

Welcome back for a sneak peek into the second chapter of A Heart Not Easily Broken, Book 1 of The Butterfly Memoirs!

Chapter two is an introduction to the male lead of the story, Brian Young, sexy bass guitarist in the band, Diverse Nation.  If you missed last week's final post for chapter 1, no problem, click the link, or read the full first chapter.

It is now Monday, two days since working at the club. Brian does more than play music. He also owns a lawn care business to pay his expenses.

After a long day in the hot California sun, Brian is ready to call it quits. He receives a call requesting his services. The caller informs him that her roommate is on the way home and will pay the bill. At the house, Brian is removing his equipment when the customer arrives. The moment he sees her, he is speechless... its Ebony.

Her attention is diverted as she digs around in her purse and has yet to make eye contact. Brian takes the time to study her.

Her hair wasn’t flowing over her shoulders, tempting my fingers to get lost in its waves. Her legs were not bare, nor did she wear a skin tight, short dress, showing off shapely calf muscles, as she had the other evening. Instead, she wore a baggy shirt over pants with some kind of printed design, something like standard medical wear. She wore her hair in a ponytail, and her feet were in tennis shoes. She struggled to balance an armful of books of various sizes and a book bag over her shoulder.
Ebony was still sexy as hell.

Surprise, surprise, surprise........

#Six Sentence Sunday #17- A Heart Not Easily Broken

“What about her?”

Those were the words spoken by Ebony last week in her attempt to get Brian to move on. Unable to ignore her obvious attraction to the last man she expected to meet, she goes by instinct.  Up until this point in her life, Ebony, a black woman, has never experienced the obvious attention Brian, a white man, is heaping upon her.

Once she mentions the brunette sitting beside her - a woman who made it obvious she had plans to find her way into Brian's bed - she risks a glance over her shoulder. Her barstool neighbor is shooting obvious daggers at her, incensed the object of her desire is ignoring her. If looks could kill, Ebony is well aware she would be dead.

How does Brian respond?

Let's find out.

The room felt as if it had shrunk to the size of a shoebox.
“If I wanted her, I wouldn’t be talking to you.”
Disbelief had me laughing. Of all the brothers in the club, none approached me. Yet, this man spied me from the stage and made his way over. I had to admit, he was bold.

He is one bound and determined man! Don't you love a man like that? Not afraid to say what he wants? No matter how independent a woman feels is, there is no way to ignore a good looking man who takes control, tells you what he wants, (in a respectful way that is!), and wastes no time making it happen. *If you've just swooned on the floor, get up, fan yourself, and grab a bottle of water! It's going to be okay!)

Alas, this chapter is coming to an end, only a few more of these Six Sentence Sunday post left. Rest assured, on the last post, I will share the entire chapter, each and every word. I hope you have as much fun reading the entire scene as I have had sharing it!

See you next week!

#Six Sentence Sunday #16 - A Heart Not Easily Broken

Welcome Back!

Last week left Brian studying the Ebony's hand as she wiggles her fingers in front of his face. He glances at it and sees no ring. He asks if she's married or in a relationship. Clearly he's undeterred. Ebony realizes he did not get her point. Her intention was not to show off a wedding band, but to to establish the difference in race. She asks why the color of her skin doesn't bother him. He says it doesn't, but ask if its a problem for her. Not what she expected.

Ebony takes a moment to reassess him. Brian's blue gaze stays on her, never wavering. His skin is tanned, he's taller than she is, and has broad shoulders and a narrow waist. Before she realizes it, she's imagining him naked.

Unnerved she says:

“You’re not my type, and I’m not yours.” I put my cup to my lips and gulped, forgetting about the extra shot of tequila, I nearly choked.
Brian angled his head, apparently musing over my statement. “You have no idea what my type is.”
“What about her?” I nodded at the brunette who sat behind me.

Boy, she's really giving this brunette props! What do you guys think? Should Brian move on to the brunette who's ready to jump him, or put the work in with Ebony to get what he wants?

Come back next Sunday to find out what happens next!

#Six Sentence Sunday #15 - A Heart Not Easily Broken

Last Sunday Ebony shook Brian's hand...an innocent gesture, right?

The contact of his large hands - calloused, but clean - sent ripples that threw her for a loop. Add the sexy way her name rolled of his tongue and what do you get? Instant attraction. The feeling is mutual. He continues to hold her hand, even after she turns away. As she gathers her senses, his warm breath finds its way beside her ear again when he leans over, determined to stop yelling over the speakers blasting music around them. The conversation is between the two of them, not the nosy brunette on the other side.

Ebony inhales the smell of his cologne, feels the warmth of his body next to hers...and then she glances his way and is reminded he's white.

Her response: "You're kidding, right?"

How does Brian respond? Let's find out...

“Why would I be joking?” He took another swig of beer, his gaze steady on mine.
I laughed lightly while raising my hand to break his line of sight, wiggling my fingers.
He studied it briefly. “I don’t see a ring. Are you married or in a relationship?”

Way to go, Brian! This man is seriously determined to get what he wants...her. Where will it go from here? You know the drill! See you next Sunday!

#Six Sentence Sunday #12 – A Heart Not Easily Broken

First impressions can make or break a person’s perception of you, especially when they’re up close and personal.

Ebony is now faced with the guitar player who zeroed in on her as she danced. Now, he’s appeared at the bar and offered to pay for her drink. What is her impression now that he’s breached her personal space?

He was tall, probably a good six-two to my five-foot-five. His build reminded me of a basketball player, a well-built basketball player. The low lights of the club reflected off damp blond hair with dark undertones. His confident smile cocked to the side, revealing pearly white teeth. The blue shirt he wore complimented the color of his eyes, sparkling like waves of the ocean while hinting at mischief. Baggy shorts and a pair of clean black Converse completed his attire.

Raise your hands if you can envision a man that looks this good! Can you feel his physical presence towering over you, seducing you, drawing you in? What does Ebony feel? Come back next week to find out!
